Spring 2010 Newsletter

Welcome
We hope you all have had an enjoyable Easter even with the Airports closed and are now ready for a new term.  If any parent is interested in becoming a leader or knows of anyone please come and speak to myself or to any of the leaders

Scout Subscriptions
Scout Subscriptions are now due and should be paid before Friday 7th May to our Scout Treasurer Stephen Henn, 58 Echline Drive, SQ, EH30 9UY or to any Leader on a Friday night. Cheques should be made payable to 21st South Queensferry Scout Group and if you could also sign the Gift Aid declaration, (even if you have done so before) we can claim 28p for every £1 of subscription from the taxman. We are able to hold the subscription at £30, for the last three years, which covers the cost of all Troop activities we organise ourselves (except week-end camps) but does not cover
Regional Events. We believe this represents good value for money at less than £2.50 per activity.  If this causes any real financial problems for a family please contact in the strictest confidence Stephen Henn (331 5194) to discuss what arrangements we can make.  If you would be happy to pay by Standing Order for the 3 terms a form is available from Stephen or is also downloadable from the website.

Inspection Rules & Scout Uniforms
At  the beginning and  end of  all  Troop  nights  in  the  hall  we  have  a  short  ceremony  raising  and  lowering  the  flag and  at  the  start  inspecting  the Scouts and their uniform. For inspection we expect Scouts to be wearing a Scout shirt (tucked in), our Scout Necker (neatly folded), AND a Scout Belt, as well as good personal hygiene. In particular they must not wear their Scout shirt over a hoodie or football tops. Scouts start at  19:00 and finish at 21:00. Uniforms and equipment can be obtained from the Guide Shop at 16 Coates Crescent (225 3483) also at Akela’s  Den 27 Townhall Street, Inverkeithing ( 01383 428933 ). They carry a reasonable amount of stock in-store or have a mail order service.

Admissions
We are a large and successful troop, and as such we have a large number of young people wanting to join.  To this end, we hav e decided in order to ensure each young person who joins gets the attention they need, we shall have an intake of new Scouts after the summer and after New Year.  This shall include cubs.  If you know of any young person outside of Scouting who wishes to join, David Brown keeps a database of these people and contacts them when the troop take in new people. We hope this will be a fairer way of ensuring we are giving the young people  what they need, rather than ‘drip feeding’ them in at points throughout the term.
